Born in West Brighton, Mrs. Mary M. Nolan graduated from St. Joseph Hill Academy High School in 1958 and thereafter, from St. Vincent Hospital’s School of Medical Technology.  Mary attended the College of Staten Island continuing education program and was employed as a medical technician for Hoechst Celanese.  On Oct. 7, 1961, Mary married Richard T. Nolan Sr. Together, they raised two children, Carol Nolan-Petronella and Richard T. Nolan Jr.  In 1983, Mary and her family relocated to Chatham Township, where she resided for 37 years.

An ardent volunteer, Mary gave her time to various community organizations, including the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  While residing in Staten Island, Mary was a long-time volunteer at Carmel Richmond Nursing Home in Grasmere and supported Girl Scouting as well as her children's grammar school, Blessed Sacrament.  Together with her extended family, Mary was a long-time supporter of the former Mount Manresa Jesuit Retreat House in Fort Wadsworth and Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Benedicta Parish and School in West Brighton.  Mary was also very active in Corpus Christi Parish, where she was a parishioner for 37 years and, among other volunteer activities at the parish, served as a Eucharistic Minister.  She also supported her husband's volunteer work on behalf of the Parcel's Council of the Knights of Columbus and continued this work after her husband's death.  She was a member of the Women's Club of Chatham, the Chatham Healing Partners and the Tuesday's Quilters.
