Women in Business Institute

St. Joseph Hill Academy High School's newly established Women in Business Institute is an innovative new initiative spearheaded by Business Teacher Mrs. Betsy Elwell and Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations Dr. Elizabeth Basile. This comprehensive program represents our commitment to empowering young women to excel in the professional sphere through a dynamic blend of experiential learning, academic rigor, and real-world exposure.

The Institute's multi-faceted approach includes immersive experiences where students engage directly with industry professionals. Through our specialized Business elective and College 12 course featuring a Financial Literacy seminar, students develop essential financial acumen and business fundamentals crucial for success in today's economic landscape.

We are very proud to introduce an exciting component of the Women in Business Institute: our distinguished Women in Business Speakers Series, featuring accomplished SJHA High School Alumnae in the business world who will share their expertise, challenges, and triumphs. This series provides our students with invaluable insights into diverse career paths while fostering meaningful mentorship connections.

The Women in Business Institute exemplifies Hill's dedication to preparing the next generation of female leaders by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in any business environment. Through this innovative program, we are not just educating students – we are cultivating tomorrow's business leaders.

Women in Business Institute Speaker Series: Ms. Angela Alcamo '15

The SJHA Women in Business Institute Speaker Series kicked off with Angela Alcamo '15 on November 13, 2024, an accomplished Audit and Attest Senior at Citrin Cooperman & Company. A "Hill Lifer," Angela brings a wealth of experience in franchise auditing and a unique perspective on navigating the financial sector as a young professional. After graduating from Saint Joseph's University with degrees in Accounting, Spanish, and Latin American Studies, she has built an impressive five-year career at Citrin Cooperman.

During her engaging presentation, Angela shared valuable insights about thriving in her career, emphasizing the importance of "staying stern with a smile" while asserting oneself professionally. She credited Hill for developing the crucial soft skills that have contributed to her success, particularly in managing teams and building professional relationships. She encouraged students to embrace their voices and unique perspectives, fostering an inclusive environment where diverse contributions enhance team dynamics.
