STEM Courses
STEM and Project Lead the Way Coordinator
Robotics
Students design, build, and program robots using the VEX Robotics platform.
Prerequisites: No prerequisites. Required course for STEM students.
AP Computer Science Principles (Project Lead the Way Course)
This course uses a multi-disciplinary approach to introduce students to the underlying principles of computation. Students learn the creative aspects of programming, abstractions, algorithms, large data sets, the Internet, cybersecurity concerns, and computing impacts. This course also gives students the opportunity to use current technologies to create computational artifacts for both self-expression and problem-solving.
Prerequisites: Students must possess a very strong math background and teacher recommendation. Preference given to students who have taken advanced math courses.
Digital Electronics (Project Lead the Way Course)
This course provides a foundation for students interested in electrical engineering, electronics, or circuit design. Students are exposed to circuit design tools used in the industry, including logic gates, integrated circuits, and programmable logic devices.
Prerequisites: Open to all STEM sophomores
Introduction to Engineering Design (Project Lead the Way Course)
Students learn about the engineering design process, applying math, science and engineering standards to hands-on-projects. They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using 3-D modeling software and document all their work in an engineering notebook.
College Environmental Sustainability
This course examines the relationship between organisms and their environment. If focuses on the inter-relationship between humans and planet Earth. Major themes include ecosystems, human population, renewable resources, energy, pollution and prevention, and sustainability. Students investigate and design solutions in response to real-world challenges related to clean and abundant drinking water, food supply, and renewable energy. To do this, students will apply their knowledge through hands-on activities and simulations.
